Mansfield, OH (October 29, 2026) – Bucyrus City Schools’ district vision, True North, Navigating Students to Career Success, emphasizes preparing all students for their futures with confidence, purpose and skill. Through intentional planning and collaboration with Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (MOESC), the district is also connecting gifted education services to this broader vision, building on students’ strengths while developing skills essential for future success.
Working alongside Bucyrus educators, Leah Barger, gifted education consultant with MOESC, supported the alignment of Written Education Plans (WEPs) with the district’s True North vision. A WEP is an individualized plan for a student identified as gifted that outlines learning goals, services and opportunities designed to provide appropriate academic challenges and support continued growth. The 2026–2027 WEP goals reflect Bucyrus’s commitment to developing critical thinking, problem-solving and transferable skills for future academic, career and life success.
Bucyrus City Schools values caregiver perspectives when planning meaningful learning opportunities. A recent family survey highlighted critical thinking and problem-solving as strengths among gifted learners while families identified adaptability, perseverance, goal-setting and responsibility as priorities for continued growth. This feedback helped inform WEP goals developed in collaboration with classroom teachers.
Across grade levels, Bucyrus students receiving gifted services engage in increasingly challenging learning experiences through cluster grouping in grades K–5 and honors courses whereas cluster grouping, acceleration, art courses and College Credit Plus are used in grades 6–12. Elementary students build communication, independence and early career awareness through advanced reading and writing. Middle school students strengthen reasoning, collaboration and exploration of complex ideas while high school students apply their learning through research, analysis and real-world problem-solving, including scientific investigations, evidence-based arguments and economic applications. General education teachers providing gifted services receive annual training and support from the gifted coordinator to meet advanced learners’ needs.
These experiences align with Bucyrus’s Learner’s Compass, the district’s portrait of a graduate, which emphasizes collaboration, critical thinking, adaptability, communication, responsibility and purposeful work. While these examples highlight gifted education, True North provides a shared direction for learning and growth for every student in Bucyrus City Schools.
Through True North, Bucyrus demonstrates how a districtwide vision can guide meaningful learning opportunities for all students while honoring their individual strengths, needs and aspirations. MOESC is proud to partner with Bucyrus in supporting the district’s commitment to helping every learner recognize their potential, develop their strengths and confidently navigate their own path toward future success.
