Re: Governor’s Orders Date: March 12, 2020
This afternoon, Governor DeWine announced several extreme and necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of the Covid-19 virus or coronavirus. One of those measures involved the K-12 education system in Ohio. I appreciate the Governor’s foresight and leadership during this unprecedented crisis that faces our state, nation and world. Many details have yet to be worked out with the Ohio Department of Education. As for now, this is what we know:
• Bucyrus City Schools will begin an extended spring break at the end of the day tomorrow, Friday, March 13, 2020. This break will last a minimum of three weeks. So, there will be no school beginning Monday, March 16 through Friday, April 3.
• All student events including athletic practices, rehearsals, club meetings are cancelled during this time period.
• All large group indoor events that involve or include non-school employees are postponed or cancelled.
As I mentioned, we are awaiting details from the Ohio Department of Education on a wide variety of issues, most importantly teaching and learning. Once we receive their guidance, we will work with our administrators and teachers to meet those requirements. Our plans will be communicated via the district website and our mass calling system. Education is vital to the strength of our country, but it pales in comparison to the health of each and every one of us. This pandemic is threatening that very thing. Each of us has a responsibility to each other to adhere to the precautionary guidelines set forth by the Center for Disease Control. If you haven’t visited their website, please do so.
Thank you for your attention, cooperation and understanding. Be safe!
